Behind the Lens: The Camera Gear I Use to Capture Our Fishing Adventures
When you're out chasing barramundi in the Northern Territory, exploring remote coastlines or spending days offshore chasing reef fish, having the right camera gear makes all the difference. For us, filming our adventures is about more than just capturing the fish — it's about documenting the entire experience, from the early starts and long boat runs to the unforgettable moments that make every trip worthwhile.
Over time, I've built a camera setup that allows me to capture our fishing adventures from different angles, whether we're on the boat, exploring remote locations or creating content for YouTube and social media.
Here's a look at the gear I use to bring our adventures to life.
DJI Osmo Action 4
The DJI Osmo Action 4 is one of my go-to cameras for capturing the action on the water. It's ideal for fishing because it's compact, durable and designed for challenging outdoor conditions.
From casting at snags to fighting fish beside the boat, it allows me to capture hands-free footage while staying focused on the fishing. It's particularly useful when I want to capture those genuine moments without interrupting what's happening.
DJI Osmo Pocket 4
The Osmo Pocket 4 is part of my setup for capturing smoother, more cinematic footage. It's great for filming boat runs, scenery and the little moments between fishing sessions that help tell the story of a trip.
I use this style of footage to add variety to my videos, creating a balance between the fast-paced action of fishing and the beautiful locations we get to explore.
GoPro HERO10 Black
The GoPro HERO10 Black is another important part of my camera collection. Having an additional action camera gives me more flexibility when filming, especially when I want to capture different angles of the same moment.
Whether it's mounted on the boat or positioned to capture the action from another perspective, it helps me build a more complete picture of what's happening during a trip.
Canon Mark III
For photography, my Canon Mark III gives me another way to document our adventures. While action cameras are perfect for filming on the water, a dedicated camera is valuable for capturing still images, fishing achievements and the scenery surrounding our trips.
Photography also gives me content to use across my website, portfolio and social media, helping preserve the memories behind each adventure.
iPhone 16 Pro Max
My iPhone 16 Pro Max is one of the most versatile tools in my kit. It's always close by, making it perfect for quick photos, behind-the-scenes moments and short-form content for Instagram and other social platforms.
When something unexpected happens on the water, there's not always time to set up a camera. Having a capable phone ready means I can capture those spontaneous moments and keep sharing our adventures with our audience.
DJI Mini 4 Drone
Aerial footage adds an entirely different perspective to our fishing content. My DJI Mini 4 drone allows me to capture sweeping views of the boat, winding coastal creeks, remote waterways and the landscapes that make fishing in the Northern Territory so special.
Drone footage is one of my favourite ways to establish the location at the beginning of a video and show just how incredible these remote fishing destinations can be.
Why I Use Multiple Cameras
No single camera can capture every part of a fishing adventure. Each piece of equipment has its own purpose, and using a combination allows me to create content that feels more immersive and authentic.
Action cameras capture the fishing itself, the Canon is there for photography, the phone handles quick and spontaneous moments, and the drone brings the bigger picture into view.
Together, they allow me to capture the full experience — not just the fish we catch, but the places we visit, the people we share the trips with and the memories we make along the way.
Capturing the Adventure, Not Just the Catch
At Predator Fishing Adventures, the goal is to share real fishing experiences and give people a glimpse into our life on the water. From chasing metre-long barramundi to exploring remote Northern Territory waterways, every trip has a story worth telling.
Having the right camera gear helps me bring those stories to life, creating content that people can experience alongside us, wherever they are.
Because at the end of the day, fishing is about more than the catch. It's about the adventure, the challenge and the memories that stay with you long after you've returned to shore.
